The Loupiac hill-sides, situated on the right side of the river Garonne, 40 kms away from Bordeaux, give the best conditions to the cultivation of vineyards.

These small hills, with their calcareous subsoil basis and their clayey gravelly tops have become less steep with erosion. Their rounded sides are composed of a clayey calcareous soil, which favours water draining.

The vine, which is only planted on the hill-sides and the table-lands (to the exception of the alluvion and marsh soils) only retains what is necessary to its development, therefore allowing the concentration rate of grapes it produces.

Nature gives the tone which is taken after by the winegrowers : privileging quality over quantity.

In this part of the world the impossible dream of numerous alchemists comes true : bringing together water and fire.

Each year a generous sun leans over this delicate south or southwest orientated countryside and, after having overwhelmed the vineyard during all the summer, it lingers on the Garonne like a caress in the early autumn days.

In this way, fogs appear in the mornings, which then overwhelm the hill-sides. Once the warm atmosphere has rapidly dissipated them, they favour the developing of Botrytis Cinerea, which is a thin natural layer developing on the exterior side of the grapes and provoking the fruit over-riping process.

Everything happens as if, under the favourable influence of water, drips of sun would be kept prisoners within the grape, progressively transforming it into gold.

Three grape-varieties are combined to give this wine the required quality.

The Semillon variety, amounting to 80% of the blending, is rarely found elsewhere than in this region, and it gives the wine its delicate aroma, its sap and complexity.

The Sauvignon variety, with a proportion of 15 %, provides a very strong aroma which almost has a Mediterranean characteristic.

The Muscadelle variety constitutes the last 5% of the blending, harmoniously combining the last two others together, giving its rounded perfume.

It is this combination, which is to be found only in this region of France, and which gives its golden colour, its complex aromas and its long taste on the palate to the noble-rotted white wine.
